Privacy

Privacy is part of the system.

Future Builders Initiative collects only what we need to operate the queue, enrollment, and stewardship system. We do not sell personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

At a glance
  • We collect the contact, home, and service information needed to provide membership and stewardship services.
  • We use named third-party providers (Stripe, Supabase, Vercel, Resend, Twilio) to operate the platform.
  • We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • We treat information about minor stewards with extra care and require parent or guardian involvement.
  • You can request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information.

Effective date: May 9, 2026

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to visitors to our website, homeowners who join the queue or enroll as members, stewards (applicants and active stewards aged 16 to 23), parents and guardians of stewards under 18, and referral partners.

It applies to information we collect through the website, the member portal, the steward portal, application forms, payment flows, communications we send, and any related services we provide.

2. Information we collect

From homeowners:

  • Name, email address, phone number
  • Service address and home details (lot size, access notes, hazards, gate codes if disclosed, pet information)
  • Membership and billing records processed through Stripe (we do not store full card numbers on our servers)
  • Communications you send us, support requests, and related notes
  • Photos of the property exterior taken during stewardship visits

From stewards (and parents or guardians of stewards under 18):

  • Name, date of birth, contact information, location
  • Application materials (availability, transportation, references, written responses)
  • Parent or guardian name, contact information, and signed consent records
  • Training submissions, photos, and supporting documentation
  • Visit records, photos, notes, and operator review status
  • Pay records, hours worked, and tax-related information required by law
  • Future Points balance, eligibility milestones, and award history

From all visitors:

  • Basic technical information your browser sends (IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referrer)
  • Cookies and similar technologies needed to operate the site (see "Cookies" below)
  • Any information you choose to send through forms, email, or chat
3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate the queue, invite, enrollment, and weekly service flow
  • Match homes with stewards who have capacity in the area
  • Document visits, maintain records, and review work against published standards
  • Process membership payments and pay stewards for completed work
  • Communicate about your account, schedule, support requests, and program updates
  • Maintain safety, prevent fraud, and respond to incidents
  • Comply with tax, labor, and other legal obligations
  • Improve the service over time using aggregated, de-identified information
4. Minor stewards (under 18) and children's privacy

Future Builders Initiative does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The steward role is offered to applicants 16 through 23.

For applicants under 18 (i.e., 16- and 17-year-old stewards), we require the involvement of a parent or guardian. Specifically:

  • A parent or guardian must provide signed consent before any block is assigned to a steward under 18.
  • We collect the parent or guardian's name and contact information so we can communicate about the steward's participation while they are a minor.
  • Parents and guardians may, at any time, request access to or deletion of their minor's personal information by emailing support@futurebuildersinitiative.org.
  • We do not condition a minor's participation on the disclosure of more information than is reasonably necessary to operate the program.
  • If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian, we will delete it.
5. How we share information

We share personal information only as needed to operate the service:

Service providers we use:

  • Stripe — payment processing for memberships and steward payouts
  • Supabase — application database and authentication
  • Vercel — website hosting and content delivery
  • Resend (or comparable transactional email provider) — sending account, schedule, and support emails
  • Twilio (or comparable SMS provider) — text-message notifications when you opt in
  • Accounting and tax providers — to meet tax and recordkeeping obligations

These providers receive only the information they need to perform their role and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.

Within the program:

  • Operators see information needed to assign blocks and review visits.
  • Stewards see only the homes and information needed for their assigned visits — including service address and exterior access notes.
  • Members see information about their own home, their assigned steward, and their visit record.

Other situations:

  • To comply with a valid legal request, court order, or applicable law
  • To protect the rights, safety, or property of Future Builders, our members, our stewards, or the public
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, with notice to affected users

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

6. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, prevent fraud, and operate the site reliably. We may use limited analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or sell information to ad networks. Most browsers let you control or block cookies; blocking essential cookies may prevent the site from working.

Referral links may include a tracking parameter so we can attribute applications and memberships to the correct steward or partner. This information is used internally and is not sold.

7. Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected:

  • Active member and steward records are retained while the account is active and for a reasonable period after to handle billing reconciliation, support, and legal obligations.
  • Pay and tax records for stewards are retained as long as required by federal and state tax law (typically at least four years).
  • Visit photos and operational notes are retained while the home is enrolled and for a reasonable period after, then minimized or deleted.
  • Queue records for homes that never enrolled are retained for a limited period and then deleted on request.
  • Communications may be retained as part of a normal business correspondence record.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and limited internal access on a need-to-know basis. Stripe handles full payment card data under its own PCI-DSS-compliant infrastructure.

No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure. If we discover a breach that affects you, we will notify you in line with applicable law.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we have about you
  • Correct information that is inaccurate
  • Delete personal information we no longer need to keep
  • Stop sending you marketing or program-update emails

Email support@futurebuildersinitiative.org with your request. We may need to verify your identity. Some information must be kept to meet legal, tax, or safety obligations even after a deletion request.
